Where the silence leaks poison
Home of fear that thrives to grow
We are entrusting it in the afterglow
Parade of unfortunate events
Continues to thump that caused dents
Yearning it was made up with concrete cements
That builds up sturdy pavements
All our pains and emotional sufferings
Came from trying to forefeel our endings
When we should've been striving as human beings
That can ensure our new beginnings
An accurate mindset
With a competent reinforcement
Brings out constant improvement
To assemble visible accomplishment
Soon, when things calm down
When people gather in downtown
When things go back to the way it is
When we've finally survived this crisis
In life your light will shine
as the stars could help navigators
to roam around the world
and discover new treasures in life

explanation:
Title: "Flowers of Elpis"
The title involves Elpis "the personified spirit (daimona) of hope".Elpis was depicted as a young woman carrying flowers in her arms. I want to incorporate Elpis "the spirit of hope" to people who are downhearted and low-spirited from all the happenings in this time of pandemic and emphasize the power of hope.
Literary Theory
The Literary theory used in the poem are Formalism and Post Structuralism. Most stanzas follow formalism which can easily be identified due to its rhyming scheme (aabb & aaaa). On the other hand One stanza follows Post Structuralism which is evident because of the use of free verse and free association. I purposely repeated the first and last word of the stanza to give more emphasis to it.
1st Stanza
This stanza explains the life and experience of people during lockdown or people who are quarantined. Prison symbolizes the quarantine center or home of people who are quarantined. This situation triggers fear, overthinking and anxiety which is not good to someone's mental health. "We are entrusting it in the afterglow" In this part, afterglow represents the light or radiance remaining in the sky after the sun has set, in addition it can also be associated to memories of their relatives before undergoing quarantine.
2nd Stanza
Endless parade of unfortunate events dominates the world in the year 2020. It's very tough and stressful year for all of us. These unfortunate events have caused temporary and permanent scars for all of us. We've build a strong foundation through the support and love of our family. And chose to live despite of obstacles and challenges in life.
3rd Stanza
This stanza explained how our emotional sufferings came from trying to overthink our future. People tend to overthink, when we should've been trying to provide solutions to our current problems. We should be focusing today to have a better day tomorrow.
4th Stanza
"It's all in the mindset"
I think the public should normalize having accurate mindset in each situation. This stanza demonstrates how the Government should have a competent officials that can readily provide concrete plans for emergency crisis. A government which provides transparency to the public. A government that serves right to the public. A government with a sense of urgency.
5th Stanza
In the 5th stanza, I want to spread positivity as to how this crisis will end. And we will live a normal life and everything will go back to the way it was. A day when we have finally survived and reminisce the days when it's tough and we chose to fight instead of giving up.
6th Stanza
The last stanza which is written in free verse explains that someone's light can shine upon the world. A single light can contagiously motivate and inspire someone to willingly achieve his/her goal. If you're a dreamer, you can do it!
